Hi ,
I just came across a wonderful sermon preached by Spurgeon. I enjoyed it and hope you can enjoy it and post your own comments.
All of Grace
A Sermon
(No. 3479)
Published on Thursday, October 7th, 1915.
Delivered by
C. H. SPURGEON,
At the Metropolitan Tabernacle, Newington
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God."—Ephesians 2:8.
F THE THINGS which I have spoken unto you these many years, this is the sum. Within the circle of these words my theology is contained, so far as it refers to the salvation of men. I rejoice also to remember that those of my family who were ministers of Christ before me preached this doctrine, and none other. My father, who is still able to bear his personal testimony for his Lord, knows no other doctrine, neither did his father before him.
I am led to remember this by the fact that a somewhat singular circumstance, recorded in my memory, connects this text with myself and my grandfather. It is now long years ago. I was announced to preach in a certain country town in the Eastern Counties....

I once read a book whose title was United We Fall. It was written by someone in light of Russian Communism. Human viewpoint is always laudable when taken lightly. Just try to go deep in your evaluation of it, you will find it amounting to nothing. Such was the case at Babel. God had asked the people to scatter but human viewpoint said it is good to gather. They wanted to rally everybody by a city and a tower , then relegate God to the background and make for themselves a name. God came down and conbfused the whole thing. This is what God will always do.
The ecumenical movement today has wonderful ideologies that almost everyone can appreciate. We will be together. We will act as one, etc. But looking closely at it one is attempted to ask, What type of unity did Christ expect for the church? Just to sing Hallelujah and say the same Amen at a gathering? even when we do not believe the same thing? Is the ecumenical movement of today not sacrificing doctrinal truths at the altar of unity?
Of course, unity does not only mean coming together as one or...

We are saved by the grace of God with no works attached. Ephesians 2:8,9; 2 Timothy 1:9; Titus 3:5. We are saved by grace because Christ paid in toto for our salvation. God saved us by grace because all had sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. We were totally condemned. We were doomed. God stepped in and saved us by grace. Only totally condemned people are candidates for grace. He who teaches that grace comes in to help us where our power is lacking is teaching a false gospel. Christ did not start somewhere and allow us to finish the rest or we did not start somewhere, bogged down along the way and cried for help, Christ came in and completed our work for us. No , Christ started it Himself and finished it all alone! To Him alone be the glory. We have no merit of our own. We respond to His work as welive everyday to please Him. It is gratitude. We are highly motivated. Our hearts are pricked! Galatians 2:20.
